Stefania Galegati Shines (Bagnacavallo, 1973) studied visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and in Brera with Alberto Garutti. He was part of Via Fiuggi, a group of young artists who lived together in Milan in the late nineties. She has been working with photography and installation, reflecting on the perception and effects of representation. Her first show was in 1994 in Viafarini. Milano. In 2003 she moved to New York for four years with the International Studio Program at PS1 MoMA. She lived around the world for a few years in New York, Buenos Aires, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Prague and Belgrade. In these nomadic years she was shooting Notes by Chance, a sort of video diary. In 2008 she moved to Palermo, where she currently lives with her African-American husband and two children. In 2015 she opened Caffè Internazionale, a cultural center and work of art.
